Meet the students

I’m originally from Canberra and after completing my undergraduate degree, I decided to live and study at UNSW. I chose Barker Apartments for two reasons, it’s located on campus and it’s good value for money.

My schedule is a little hectic and often means I need to stay in the laboratory till very late, so having the freedom to cook my own meals in my own kitchen is quite handy. I’ve got plenty of space in my bedroom and some pretty fantastic housemates.

What are you studying?

Chemistry (PhD).

What 3 words describe Barker Street?

Quiet. Comfortable. Spacious.

What cheers you up?

Watching The Family Guy.

What’s one thing not many people know about you?

I can do a pretty convincing Irish accent!

A scientist in the pharmaceutical industry.

I’m a research student, currently in my third year at the School of Chemistry and I moved to Australia from Mumbai, India in mid-2013.

For the first few months of living here, I stayed with relatives and had to endure a pretty long commute to UNSW every day, so when I finally made the decision to live on campus at Cowper Street, I was able to save a lot of time and energy! I’ve met heaps of wonderful people from lots of different backgrounds from all around the world and my flatmates are some of the best people I’ve met.

I’ve grown as a person living here, it’s helped boost my self-confidence and sense of independence. This is the first time I’ve lived so far away from home, but at Cowper it always feels like I’m home.

If you could live in a book, TV show or movie, what would it be?

Friends.

What is the #1 most played song on your iPod?

Hindi song (or Indian song), “Tum Hi Ho” from Aashiqui 2.

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?

Back in time maybe, to relive my childhood.

What cheers you up?

Weekend at the beach.

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would it be?

My mum.

I’m an international student from China studying information technology (masters). After receiving an offer to study at UNSW, the tough part was finding a place to live.

Coming from another country, I didn’t know much about the reliability of private rental providers, so making the decision to book a university apartment was an easy decision. After arriving, I found Cowper Street to be satisfying in nearly every way and I’ve decided to stay on while I continue my studies.

IT (Masters).

What 3 words describe Cowper St Apartments?

Affordable.  Quiet, comfortable.

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?

Mars! To visit a different planet and discover alien life.

Favourite flavor of ice-cream?

Vanilla.
