Colombo House is a hybrid between a traditional college and apartment style of living. You’ll have the independence and freedom to cook your own meals and clean your own room but still be part of a strong collegiate community with lots of events and activities throughout the year.

From regular BBQs, movie, trivia and talent nights, social sporting opportunities, food fairs, cultural performances, cooking classes, as well as regular outings exploring everything Sydney has to offer, Colombo House has built a strong sense of community among its residents.

With over 35 nationalities represented from all corners of the globe, Colombo House is a thriving multicultural community with a focus on international activities and events. In fact, the Colombo International Food Festival is one of the most delicious events of the year!

You’ll quickly become part of the family at Colombo.

  • Self catered, the freedom to cook your own food

  • Independence and privacy to clean your own room

  • Cultural diversity

Student support

You’ll be supported by an on-site team comprising of the Dean, Deputy Dean and a team of Senior Student Volunteers (RAs). Every floor has an RA, and it’s their job to provide pastoral support and ensure each and every resident is looked after.

‘Colombuddy’ is a mentoring program partnering new residents with a returning resident, helping you get settled into college life, the University and the local area.

Academically, you’ll be supported by a college-wide tutorial program. Aimed at first year undergraduate students, the program offers mentoring in most academic fields. You can also attend study skills seminars, helping you make the transition from high school to university a smooth one.

A truly international college full of fun, friendly people and lots of activities to always keep you busy.

Having completed my undergraduate degrees at UNSW in Chemical Engineering (Honours) and Arts (French and History), working in Colombo House feels like being at home! As the Dean, I now get the honour of watching our current residents progress through their studies and achieve great things in their respective fields whilst they also enjoy the great benefits of living in a UNSW College! My previous 4yrs in the UNSW Colleges has meant many of the residents I started with are now out in the world living the values and using the skills they learnt here.

I moved to Colombo in 2015, partly for the convenience of living on campus and partly because I prefer to cook my own food.

Originally from Singapore, I began my studies in media, transferred to exercise physiology which first took me to foundation studies. The transfer was sparked when I started the UNSW Fit Club, which would have been impossible to do if I were living off campus. It’s been such a great success and we managed to get more than 200 members in the first 5 weeks!
