How do I log a maintenance request?

You can log all maintenance requests through the online Resident Portal . Issues are rated on severity , so if it’s a busy time, please bear with us. You can view the status of your request by logging on to the portal.

My light bulb has broken, where can I buy a new one?

For health and safety reasons, we ask you don’t replace any light bulbs yourself. You can raise a maintenance request through the online Resident Portal . Once logged, the request will go directly to our maintenance team. Issues are rated on severity , so if it’s a busy time, please bear with us.

Is there air conditioning?

The Colleges (Basser, Goldstein, Philip Baxter, Fig Tree Hall, UNSW Hall and Colombo House) have been built to the highest standards to provide a comfortable environment and whilst the bedrooms aren’t air-conditioned , they do have a ceiling fan . For Apartments , Jacaranda Hall is the only

Can I smoke?

UNSW is a smoke free campus and this includes all the accommodation buildings owned and operated by UNSW. Smoking of any substance is prohibited in the room and/or apartment and all buildings and common property.

I’m locked out of my room, who do I call?

It’s your responsibility to carry your key/access card with you at all times and to keep it secure. Colleges If you lock yourself out of your room during office hours (Monday to Friday 8:00AM to 6:00PM), visit the Student Accommodation office (Gate 5, High Street). There’s loud music playing above or near me, how do I make a complaint?

If a student is making too much noise late at night or early in the morning, in the first instance you can try knocking on their door and politely asking them to keep it down . You’ll probably find they weren’t aware of how loud they were. If the noise persists , you can contact the resident staff

My flatmates never clean our communal areas – what should I do?

Whether you’re living in a single room in one of the colleges or sharing a room in one of the apartments, you’ll undoubtedly be sharing common spaces with other people. The best thing to do is to sit down with all of your flatmates when you move in, maybe over some pizza and organise a cleaning

I’m not getting on with my flatmates, what should I do?

You can have a chat with your Community Assistants in the first instance, or alternatively contact the Student Accommodation office and we’ll try and help.

Can I have friends/family to stay overnight?

Yes, in exceptional circumstances , seek authority for a guest or parent to share your room overnight. For the Colleges , these requests should be submitted to the Dean and approved prior to your guest's stay - maximum 3 nights. For the Apartments , you should contact the Student Accommodation

What about insurance?

Your contents are not covered for theft or damage and we strongly recommend you take out insurance to cover valuable items, eg. computers, cameras or jewellery. We also recommend you obtain suitable health insurance .

How close are the colleges/apartments to public transport and the nearest shopping centre?

Public transport in the vicinity of UNSW is provided by buses . Main bus routes run along the perimeter of the campus. The nearest shopping centre is at Randwick , a 5 to 10 minute walk from the campus. Eastgardens shopping mall is a short bus ride from UNSW. Please click here for more information .

How do I get to the Art & Design campus?

UNSW provides a shuttle bus for easy movement between the main campus and the Art & Design campus (previously COFA). The shuttle bus stop is located at the Gate 8 entrance on High Street (UNSW Kensington) and at the Greens Rd entrance (Paddington). The Art & Design campus is also on the

Can I sublet my room or apartment?

No , you can not sublet your room or apartment.

If I live in Basser, Goldstein, Philip Baxter, UNSW Hall or Fig Tree Hall, can I stay over the Christmas break?

Normally, yes . It will depend on availability and you’ll be required to pay a vacation fee which may be different to your normal accommodation fee. You may also be required to change rooms .

If I live in Basser, Goldstein, Philip Baxter, UNSW Hall or Fig Tree Hall, can I eat in the Dining Hall over the Christmas break?

Unfortunately, no . Catering isn’t provided in the Dining Hall outside of your regular licence period. A number of retail outlets stay open over the Christmas break .

Can I re-book the same room or apartment?

Possibly, for the apartments . Although we can’t always guarantee you’ll get the same room, sometimes we need to move students around to maintain gender balances. Rooms in the colleges are organised by the Deans and are at their discretion.
