Applying to live on campus in UNSW owned and operated colleges or apartments is made via our online resident portal. We recommend you apply early, even before your high school or university results are finalised as places fill up fast.

Application process

Complete your application online

Please click here to access the online Resident Portal.

Please note, there is a non-refundable $100AUD application fee required to complete your application.

Occasionally, there can be problems with the system due to routine maintenance. Please try at a later time. If you’re still experiencing problems, email the UNSW Student Accommodation office and give as much information as possible about the problem.

Select your preferences

You can nominate up to 4 accommodation preferences in your order of preference. Every effort is made to give you your first preference, but placement depends on availability and cannot be guaranteed.

Please make sure you only select preferences you’re willing to accept.

Upload supporting documents

If you’re applying for Basser, Goldstein, Philip Baxter, Colombo House, Fig Tree Hall or UNSW Hall it is MANDATORY to complete and upload the Referee Form. The reference must be from a Teacher, Professional, or Work Referee. Your application WILL NOT be progressed unless this Referee Form is completed and uploaded. You may still choose to attach additional references and academic transcripts/reports.

Application fee

A $100AUD application fee is required in order to submit your application for the colleges or apartments. You’ll be directed to the UNSW Finance payment gateway and given a reference number for the payment.

Please note: The application fee is not refundable.

If you applied for Basser, Goldstein, Philip Baxter, Colombo House, Fig Tree Hall or UNSW Hall, you will be required to attend an interview either over the phone or in person.

Offer of accommodation

The first round of offers are usually emailed in October of the year prior to commencement.

Accept your offer

In order to accept your offer, you’ll be required to make a $1000AUD fee in advance payment. The fee in advance will be subtracted from your final payments at the end of your licence agreement.

What if I pay the $1000, but don't receive an offer to study at UNSW?

If you don’t receive an offer to study at UNSW and inform us in writing with documentation* 7 days prior to the start of your Licence Agreement, the fee in advance can be refunded on request.

*Documentation required can be one of the following:

- Letter from Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) showing that your preference of UNSW was not offered.

- Letter from UNSW The Nucleus: Student Hub or Faculty Course Co-ordinator advising that you will not be offered a place or you were unsuccessful in your application.

- Letter from UNSW Admissions advising that you will not be offered a place.

What if I pay the $1000, receive an offer to study at UNSW, but decide to decline the offer?

If you receive an offer to study at UNSW and decline that offer, the fee in advance payment is not refundable.

Living on campus is so great because you can easily come back to your room to relax or study between classes.
